ISANG Philippine vessel ang hinayaan ng Chinese vessel na lumubog nang magkabanggaan ang mga ito sa West Philippine Sea, iniulat kahapon ng Department of National Defense (DND).
“A collision between a Chinese and Filipino vessel (FB Gimber1) was reported by Filipino fishermen near the Recto Bank in the West Philippine on the evening of June 9, 2019. The collision sank the Filipino vessel,” sabi ni DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana base sa impormasyong nakuha mula sa Filipino fishermen.
Ang Filipino boat, ayon sa DND, ay may sakay na 22 fishermen na iniligtas naman ng Vietnamese fishing vessel.
“We denounce the actions of the Chinese fishing vessel for immediately leaving the incident scene abandoning the 22 Filipino crewmen to the mercy of the elements,” sabi ni Lorenzana.
Ang Recto Bank o Reed Bank ay kinokonsidera bilang possible source ng natural gas sa bansa. Kabilang ito sa mga erya na tinitingnan ng Pilipinas para sa joint exploration sa China.
